How is Spectrum Languages different from a tutoring center?

Unlike tutoring centers, we focus our efforts solely on languages. This means that you will never receive a Math teacher in place of a Spanish teacher. Furthermore, languages are our passion and what we do best. While we pride ourselves on training all of our instructors, we believe that a personality cannot be taught. That is why we choose teachers that are personable and that can relate to the needs and personalities of their students.

Private Tutoring

Private tutoring is no longer seen as a last resort for struggling students. Rather, it can complement and in some cases compensate for the lack of personal attention available in a regular language class. Too often, students can do little more than conjugate verbs on paper after taking a language for several years. For this reason, one-on-one assistance is especially important for students and adults to have the opportunity to ask specific questions and more importantly, to practice SPEAKING!

Summer Programs

More than any other subject material, a student's language knowledge is the first information to be lost once students leave school for the summer and the hardest to re-acquire once students resume class in the Fall. It often takes the first several weeks in school to re-acquire the fluency and comfort zone in a language before a student is ready to go on and learn new material. In order to remedy this problem, Spectrum offers three different summer programs.

Head Start Program

Wouldn't it be great to start ahead in class rather than behind? Our Head Start Program allows students to not only maintain their current language knowledge, but also to get ahead by learning major concepts for the following level. It is also a great opportunity for students to get the speaking practice that is not available in larger classes during the year. This can be done one-on-one in at the location of the student's choice or in small groups of students at the same language level.

Let's Talk

This program is for more advanced students who are comfortable with grammar and writing and want to actually be able to communicate well in the language. This is especially important for students who will be entering an A.P language class and preparing for the A.P. language test as they will be required to speak and understand the language. This program is offered individually and in small groups.

Spanish Finals Review Sessions

Spectrum Languages Spanish Finals Review Sessions are our most popular Student Service. The review sessions are a 3 weekend breakdown of ALL the material that will be covered on any given Spanish final of any level 1-AP. The sessions are taught in small groups and are broken down into three parts based upon the material covered during the semester. Nadia Dorsey uses her years of Spanish Finals’ Review preparation and familiarity with the finals themselves to

a)ORGANIZE ….students and their notes

b)QUIZ…. them during the reviews so they know what they do and don’t know

c)PREPARE…. them early (starts 3 weeks prior to their final) so they avoid trying to learning a semester’s worth of material in a few nights

Adult Learning

Spectrum realizes that most adults have jobs, spouses, children, etc. and most importantly, LIVES! With all these responsibilities, there seems to be no time or energy left to take on the task of learning a language. Our convenient programs include:

• Efficient in-home/office tutoring sessions available 7 days/wk, all hours of the day, including evenings.

Created especially for groups of adults who have very busy schedules, definitive language/culture goals, and a time schedule to follow, Spectrum has devised Create-A-Class (C-A-C). C-A-C is the ultimate answer to personalized service.

Intensive Weekend Seminars

If you are looking for something a little shorter and more intensive, try one of our intensive weekend seminars. All you need is 6 other friends, family members or co-workers and 8 hours to focus on learning the language of your choice. You decide what you want to learn and one of our skilled language professionals will customize an intensive program for your group to learn in just one weekend.

A language specialist will meet with a company representative to establish the company's language goals and schedule.

Then a custom language program will be tailored to fit the company's needs. At Spectrum, we understand that it can be difficult to coordinate many employee's/manager's schedules within a given day.

What is Spectrum Outreach?

Not only does Spectrum Languages care about helping our students learn languages, we also offer a fun way to help them turn their passion into action within the Hispanic community in Orange County and around the world. Spectrum Outreach provides the unique opportunity for youth to develop their Spanish-speaking skills and leadership capabilities while doing activities that they love to do. All in all, we hope to expand the horizons of the youth of both groups while “allowing people to fulfill their potential by serving others.”

Local Community Program

Each year we help students participate through local organizations that benefit the Hispanic community doing things such as playing soccer with Hispanic kids in Santa Ana or visiting local schools and teaching kids about the Hispanic culture that they have discovered on a World Outreach Trip.

These trips combine fun, adventure, cultural exploration, and community service all wrapped into a trip that is sure to change any participant’s view of the world. We specialize in creating a cultural opportunity of a lifetime to small groups of students led by an instructor and team of local guides to any Spanish-speaking country around the world.
